Sleepy Hollow's Matt Schwarz working on a symphony

Sleepy Hollow guitarist and founding member Matt Schwarz is writing a classical symphony! "It's going to be more-or-less straightforward classical music, not as prog-metal as the orchestral 'Aristotle's Lantern', although the opening sonata form movement has a theme inspired by the eastern European gypsy folk I used to play with Sarabande, and the finale is inspired by those 'Powerslave'-era Iron Maiden harmony guitar instrumental sections! Like our rock music, I have derived inspiration from past masters while bringing in modern elements and my own ideas as seemed best, with the goal of creating a piece of music that is timeless and musically satisfying, rather than trying to fit in any current musical sound. So far I've got two movements (opening sonata-allegro and scherzo) completed as string quartet, the finale is mainly sketched out, and I've got the first page of the andante. I'm kind of orchestrating piecemeal as I go! The leader of the Castle Rock Orchestra has expressed interest in performing this work in their spring 2013 season."
