Matt Schwarz completes scoring of the first movement of his Symphony No. 1

This week, Sleepy Hollow guitarist Matt Schwarz printed out a 31-page score for the opening Allegro of his Symphony #1! The symphony, an arrangement of Matt's String Quartet in d-minor, is in the classical tradition of the great masters, with the traditional scoring of 5 string sections, 4 pairs of woodwinds, brass, and percussion (including the somewhat larger percussion section of more modern classical music). Matt has retained the classical model of 4 movements (Sonata-allegro, Adagio, Scherzo, and Rondo), although some of his non-classical influences are present (the opening movement contains a gypsy-folk melody from Matt's Sarabande days, while the closing Rondo movement has some Iron Maiden harmony-guitar influence). The remaining 4 movements are mostly complete in a string quartet form, and Matt will work on orchestrating them this winter with the possibility of a performance by the Castle Rock Orchestra in 2013!
