From the recording String Quartet No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 7
A progressive metal instrumental for string quartet, the second movement is in sonata form, using meter in the same way classical sonata form uses key areas. The first theme is in a standard 6/8, but the second theme is in a jagged 7/8, and the development is a ride through constantly shifting meter inspired by the intro to ELP's Tarkus. Some of the themes originated as heavy metal guitar riffs.
