My first string quartet is a foray into "pure classical music" (as opposed to my first two opuses, which were orchestrations of my progressive metal songs "Aristotle's Lantern" and "The Song of Taliesyn"). This is not to say the quartet is merely an imitation of classical-era style -- most of the movements have the driving rhythms of rock and heavy metal music. Also some of the musical themes originated as rock ideas - for example, the basic idea of the Adagio started out as a progressive rock synthesizer idea, while the rondo theme of the finale was a heavy metal riff written on electric guitar.
