Sleepy Hollow: Songs

The Butterfly Queen

(Sleepy Hollow)
June 23, 2004

Joe came up with this during the Sleepy Acoustic Hollow days, calling it "the girlfriend of Jethro Tull's 'Jack in the Green'". We originally recorded it as a harpsichord and flute duet, but that ended up being too fast for vocals, so we used it for the vinyl pressing of the Sleepy Hollow EP. Vocals are provided by Christina, with whom Matt performed at the NJ Renaissance Kingdom. This is a 100% Mole-free recording!

Christina Kirk - vocals
Joe - piano

BUTTERFLY QUEEN - 1:04

Mother of flutter
She rides the warm summer breeze
Cocoon, the only shelter
From winter's freeze
As you pass by
Show a smile, if you please
Then turn away
If you feel you must sneeze

Then the dark winter comes
All of her children run
Within the stories told
Many died from the cold
But those who made their bed
Within the dark thread
Shall rise anew
With colors Red, White, & Blue

She is the Butterfly Queen
